Some needs go beyond what volunteers can provide. In those cases, we guide members to trusted partners like AgeWise Colorado, a hub of vetted resources, webinars, and educational tools designed to help older Coloradans and their families navigate the journey of aging wisely.

What Volunteers Help With

Below are the types of help our older adults can access through A Little Help, provided by a community of volunteers. This is not an exhaustive list. Please note that our ability to meet needs is dependent on volunteer availability and ability. We will post reasonable requests but cannot guarantee all requests will be picked up by a volunteer.

A Little Help is not equipped to provide emergency assistance. In case of emergency, call 911.

Yard Work & Handy Help

From raking leaves to light cleaning or organizing, our volunteers help older adults continue to take pride in their homes and yards. Support may include weeding, watering plants, planting and gardening, porch sweeping, window washing, garage organizing, or trimming shrubs and bushes with hand tools.

Please note: Volunteers do not mow lawns or use power tools.

Technology Help

Need a hand with everyday tech? Our volunteers offer one-on-one support to help with smartphones, tablets, laptops, email, video calls, photo organization, or setting up home devices like smart TVs and printers. Whether you're troubleshooting a device issue, setting up something new, or just want to learn how to better navigate your tech, it's like a personalized tutorial—simple, supportive, and tailored to you.

Transportation

We coordinate round-trip rides to help members stay mobile and independent—whether it's a medical appointment, trip to the grocery store, or a social outing. Volunteers provide round-trip or one-way rides using their own vehicles and insurance, and when appropriate, they can offer an arm from the door to the car, assist with note-taking at medical visits, help with grocery lists, and carry or put away groceries.

Examples of rides include:

  • Grocery stores
  • Medical appointments
  • Fitness classes
  • Places of worship
  • Social and educational events

We request at least 5 business days' notice for transportation requests. We limit ride requests to one per week and ask that they are reasonable in distance. Volunteer drivers use their own insurance coverage and drive their own vehicles. The volunteer's driver's license and auto insurance information are on file in the A Little Help office. Parking fees incurred should be paid by the member being helped. A Little Help is unable to transport individuals after undergoing anesthesia and cannot accommodate wheelchair transport.

Errands & Pick-Ups

Need something picked up from the pharmacy or post office? Volunteers can run quick errands on your behalf—including mailing packages, picking up mail, delivering prescriptions, grocery shopping, and even the occasional dog walk.

Friendly Visits & Calls

Looking for a friendly voice or someone to share a cup of coffee with? A Little Help has volunteers who are happy to make short phone calls or brief visits to brighten your day and keep you connected. While these visits are meaningful, they are typically short and not provided daily or for extended periods of time.

Indoor Help

Volunteers can assist with light cleaning and organization tasks like sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, reading mail, or helping with home organization projects such as cleaning out cupboards, closets, or even the garage.

These requests are limited to once a month. A Little Help volunteers do not provide deep cleans, bathroom cleaning, dishes, or personal care.

Snow Removal

Through our SnowMatch program, we pair volunteers with nearby neighbors to help clear walkways and keep older adults safe during the winter months. Snow shoveling is an extra service provided only if volunteers are available, and we cannot guarantee coverage.

Snow buddies are matched each fall for the full winter season. These volunteers commit to clearing walkways within 24 hours of a snowfall of 2 inches or more. Driveways are not included.

To be matched with a snow buddy, members must submit their request by October 31.

Please remember that a volunteer may have a job or other obligations, so they may not be able to get to your home immediately after snow stops falling. Please allow 24 to 36 hours for walkways to be shoveled.

If the weather service designates a Winter Storm Warning or if the temperature drops to an unsafe level, volunteers are asked to wait until it is safe for them to leave home.

Special Events & Programs

We host opportunities to gather and grow—like our Little Talks, Diverse Discussions, summer picnics, and holiday parties. These moments of connection are just as vital as the help we offer. Whether it's learning something new, sharing a meal, or simply enjoying good company, our events are designed to build community and celebrate the vibrant lives of our members.
