Step away from work and into your community! Ditch the Desk offers groups from businesses, schools, faith communities, and clubs the opportunity to volunteer together and make a direct impact on the lives of older adults in their neighborhood.
How It Works: 3 Simple Steps
1
Fill out the interest form
Let us know a bit about your group, how many people, when you'd like to volunteer, and what kind of project you're interested in.
We recommend at least three weeks' notice, and while we typically run Ditch the Desk projects from April through August, we'll do our best to accommodate your schedule.
Our local staff will be in touch within 2-3 business days of submitting the form to discuss your group's needs and tailor the experience to fit your goals. We will work with you to find the best date and time for your team, and help coordinate the project to ensure everything runs smoothly. Please ensure the contact information you provided is accurate so we can reach you without delay.
3
Show Up and Make a Difference
Most groups are divided into crews of 3-5 for activities like yard work, friendly visits, or project-based help.
Once you arrive, your team will volunteer for approximately three hours, working together to create a meaningful impact in the community. It's not just about the task at hand - it's about the difference you're making in people's lives and the lasting effects of your time spent giving back.

Open the Door to More

Invite Us to Speak
Want to learn more about the broader impact of your work? We'd love to speak at your workplace, school, or community group about how your efforts help older adults thrive at home.
Why Ditch the Desk?
When your group joins Ditch the Desk, you're helping build stronger, more connected communities — across generations.
Many older adults in our neighborhoods choose to age at home and remain active, independent members of their communities. Sometimes, a little extra support — whether it's seasonal yard help, a meaningful conversation, or a thoughtful delivery — makes it easier for them to continue thriving in the places they love.
Your presence as a volunteer brings more than just assistance — it brings connection, kindness, and the reminder that we're all part of something bigger.
"Thank you so much for providing us such a fulfilling outlet to be of service to others! The crew kept saying how much they enjoyed the occasion, we may be contacting you again in the future. Bless you for the service you provide."
