Why What We Do Matters
As communities change, many older adults face challenges in staying connected and maintaining their homes. Our volunteers step in to offer not just practical support but also companionship and a sense of belonging. By bridging generations, we help combat loneliness, strengthen neighborhoods, and ensure that no one has to navigate aging alone.
Where We Came From
A Little Help began in 2005 as Washington Park Cares, when a group of neighbors in Denver came together to support older adults aging at home. Inspired by the national Village Movement, we built a model that connects neighbors of all ages, fostering independence and community support.
By 2007, we officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with a vision of stronger, intergenerational communities where older adults can thrive.
A Decade of Growth
In 2011, we took a major step forward by hiring our first full-time Executive Director, which paved the way for remarkable growth. Over the years, we expanded our reach, deepened our services, and strengthened our leadership. We developed a professional board and staff, improved volunteer coordination, enhanced our brand and web presence, and secured sustainable funding through grants, corporate partnerships, and donors.
As our capacity grew, so did our impact. We introduced more programs, refined our service coordination, and built a community-driven support system that helps older adults remain independent and connected.
Expanding Across Colorado
While A Little Help started in Metro Denver, our mission quickly reached beyond the city:
2007
Officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
2011
Hired our first full-time Executive Director
2017
Expanded to Fort Collins, partnering with the Partnership for Age-Friendly Communities
2019
Launched services in Berthoud and Loveland with support from the Doyle and Luvesta Jones Fund
2023
Extended into Weld County and continue to explore areas where our model can make a difference
We also serve older adults on Colorado's Western Slope, with a presence in Grand Junction.
Our Impact Today
Served nearly 2,000 older adults
Engaged thousands of volunteers
Strengthened communities through care and connection
What started as a grassroots effort among neighbors has grown into a statewide movement, proving that small acts of help can make a lasting impact. Our story is still unfolding, and we are excited for the future!
