Diverse Discussion with Spark the Change

Self Advocacy and Assertive Communication To Support Mental Well-Being

 Tuesday, June 16  |   10:00 a.m.  |   Zoom
Speaking up for yourself can feel challenging — especially in situations involving health, stress, or difficult conversations. Join us for this empowering Diverse Discussion with Spark the Change, focused on building the confidence and communication skills needed to support your mental well-being.
During this session, we’ll explore what self advocacy really means, including how to clearly communicate your needs, rights, and interests with confidence and respect. We’ll also discuss the difference between passive, aggressive, and assertive communication styles, and why assertiveness plays such an important role in maintaining healthy boundaries and emotional wellness.
You’ll hear practical examples of self advocacy in everyday situations — including at medical appointments — and learn small, realistic steps you can take to strengthen these skills over time. We’ll also talk about how self-awareness, support systems, therapy, support groups, and practicing with trusted people can help make assertive communication easier with practice.
 What You’ll Learn:
  • What self advocacy looks like in daily life
  • The difference between passive, aggressive, and assertive communication
  • How boundaries support mental well-being
  • Benefits of assertiveness and self advocacy
  • Simple ways to build confidence communicating your needs
